Respond! College welcomes its new intake of Cork based Healthcare Support Students

Cllr. Tony Fitzgerald (Manager of Knocknaheeney/Hollyhill Youth Service), Dr. Lorcan Byrne (Programme Leader) and Respond! College’s new intake of Cork students for the FETAC Level 5 Healthcare Support Certificate.

Respond! College has just begun to deliver a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Healthcare Support on the Northside of Cork City. 21 Students are now studying for a level 5 Major award in Healthcare Support. The Healthcare Support programme is being delivered in Knocknaheeney/Hollyhill Youth Service and is being funded by the Department of Social Protection through the Community Employment Scheme.

According to Programme Leader Dr Lorcan Byrne:

“We are very proud of our Cork based Healthcare Support programme, this is our third intake of students and over these past years 45 students have graduated with either major or minor awards. This programme really shows what can happen when the community pulls together. We are very grateful to all of the Community Employment Supervisors as they enable the students, helping them to access funding, supporting and encouraging the students over the entire year. We are also very grateful to our good friends and colleagues in Knocknaheeney/Hollyhill Youth Service who made a great contribution making their wonderful community facility available to us”

Holding the Healthcare Support Certificate is now a prerequisite for entry/advancement within the caring profession. So attaining the certificate is significant. Our teaching philosophy means that we highly value student’s life experience, both personal and professional, this becomes the centre point of the entire learning process. This allows students to share knowledge, skills and experience in ways that are mutually beneficial for all the students and the teaching staff.
